Search “Nano Banana price” and you’ll see $0.13 per image quoted almost everywhere. That number is real — but it’s the most expensive model in the family. The cheapest Nano Banana costs about a quarter of it.

That gap matters if you’re about to build on it. “Nano Banana” isn’t one model with one price; it’s four models across four resolution tiers, billed by token, and most of the pages ranking for this term either quote the priciest tier as the price or aren’t even talking about Google’s API — they’re third-party subscription sites reselling credits. There is no single Nano Banana price. On Google’s own list it runs from $0.0336 per image (Nano Banana 2 Lite) to $0.24 (Nano Banana Pro at 4K) — roughly a 7× spread, and wider still once you factor in the cheaper aggregator and Batch channels below. The widely-quoted ~$0.13 is Nano Banana Pro at 1K/2K — the top-tier model, though Pro at 4K runs higher still. For most high-volume work, Nano Banana 2 at $0.045–$0.15 or Lite at ~$0.03 is the model you actually want, and it costs a fraction of what the headline number implies.

There isn’t one Nano Banana — there are four

“Nano Banana” is a nickname for Google’s Gemini image models, and the naming is a genuine trap. There are four distinct models, and you cannot rank them by the number in the name:

  • Nano Banana — Gemini 2.5 Flash Image. The original, now superseded.
  • Nano Banana 2 — Gemini 3.1 Flash Image. The current fast, high-volume workhorse.
  • Nano Banana 2 Lite — Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite Image. The cheapest, 1K only.
  • Nano Banana Pro — Gemini 3 Pro Image. Highest fidelity, most expensive.

Note the trap: “Pro” runs on Gemini 3, while “2” runs on Gemini 3.1 — a higher version number. The “2” and “Pro” refer to product tiers, not model generations, so newer isn’t higher-numbered and pricier isn’t newer. Each of the four also has an -edit variant for image-to-image work — eight endpoints in total, which is why a single “Nano Banana price” was never going to be one number.

The reason this matters for your bill: most articles ranking for “Nano Banana price” mention only two models and quote Pro’s figure. If you priced a high-volume product off that, you’d overestimate your cost by 2–4×, because the model you’d actually reach for — Nano Banana 2 or Lite — is far cheaper.

What each model actually costs per image

Google doesn’t bill per image. It bills per token, and image output consumes a fixed number of tokens per tier — a 1K image on Nano Banana 2 is billed as 1,120 output tokens, which at $60 per million tokens works out to $0.067. Google publishes that equivalent per-image price, which is what the table below uses. The token mechanism is why price scales with resolution: a 4K image is more tokens than a 512px one.

(Nano Banana 2 Lite is 1K-only; the original Nano Banana is a flat $0.039/image on the older 2.5 Flash model.) Pro also adds a small input charge — about $0.0011 per image for the prompt tokens — which is negligible next to the output cost. Every image from every model carries an invisible SynthID watermark; that’s a Google policy, not a price line, but worth knowing before you build on it.

So when someone says “Nano Banana costs $0.13,” they mean Nano Banana Pro at 1K–2K. At the other end, Nano Banana 2 Lite is $0.0336 and Nano Banana 2 at 1K is $0.067 — the same picture, a quarter to half the price, on a model that’s faster and built for volume.

The four price layers nobody separates

Here’s the part that makes “Nano Banana price” so confusing to search for: there are four different prices for the same model depending on where you buy it, and almost no page distinguishes them.

  1. Google API, Standard. The list prices above. Real-time, pay per token, no minimum. This is the reference price.
  2. Google API, Batch. Google’s Batch API runs the same models at 50% off every price above, in exchange for asynchronous processing (results within 24 hours, not instant). This is the cheapest way to run Nano Banana at scale, and it’s the layer most comparisons never mention — Nano Banana Pro 4K drops from $0.24 to about $0.12, Nano Banana 2 Lite from $0.0336 to about $0.017.
  3. Third-party subscription sites. Most of the first page of results for “nano banana” — sites on domains like nanobanana.io and similar — sell a monthly credit plan, not metered API access, and rarely disclose the underlying per-image cost. These are not Google, and their “unlimited” plans have per-day or per-minute caps in the fine print. If you’re building a product, this layer usually isn’t what you want.

Getting these four confused is how the internet arrived at a single wrong number for “Nano Banana price.” Before you compare anything, know which layer a figure comes from.

How to pay the least

The cheapest option depends on one thing: whether your generation can wait.

The model choice moves your bill more than the channel does — Lite to Pro is a 4× jump — but within a model, Batch roughly halves it. Two levers, in that order.

If it can run asynchronously, Google’s Batch API is the floor — 50% off Standard on every model and tier. For a product that generates images in the background (batch thumbnails, overnight renders, bulk edits), this is close to unbeatable on raw price. Nano Banana 2 at 1K goes from $0.067 to about $0.034; Lite goes to roughly $0.017.

If you need images in real time, the question is Google Standard vs. an aggregator. To be straight about it: that per-image edge over Google’s Standard price does not make an aggregator the cheapest option overall. Google’s Batch API undercuts everyone for work that can run async — including us. The honest framing is: Batch is cheapest if you can wait; a metered aggregator is cheapest for real-time if you’d rather not manage Google billing directly and want the rest of the model catalog behind the same key. And Nano Banana is Google’s model either way — Modellix is a distribution layer, not the maker.

Pick the smallest model that clears your quality bar. The single biggest lever isn’t the channel, it’s the model: dropping from Pro to Nano Banana 2 is a 2–3× cost cut, and Pro’s fidelity only matters for a minority of production use cases. Draft on Lite, ship on Nano Banana 2, reserve Pro for the hero images that need it.

A note on calling it

Whichever layer you choose, the integration shape is the same: a text prompt, an optional aspectRatio and imageSize, and an image back. Google’s API bills the tokens; an aggregator returns a flat per-image charge in its logs. Two practical notes that affect cost:

  • Resolution is a price dial, not just a quality one. Because billing is by token, requesting 4K when 1K would do more than doubles your per-image cost on Nano Banana 2 — $0.067 → $0.151 at Google Standard, about 2.25×. Set imageSize deliberately.
  • On free tiers, be skeptical.
