Making anime used to take a studio, a key-frame team, and very tired in-betweeners. An AI anime video generator now gets you a tearful close-up, a line of dialogue with sound, or a rooftop fight from one paragraph.

Anyone can make one clip. The real anime problems start at clip two: the lead changes face, the style drifts toward 3D, and fights turn into a blur of merged limbs. Where you generate decides how easily you can fix that.

Here are four ways to make AI anime, plus a head-to-head fight test on three Seedance models.

Four AI anime shots generated with Seedance 2.0: emotion, dialogue, fight, and world-building

How we tested: every clip on this page was generated by our team through the API on Seedance, at 720p unless noted. Costs are the amounts actually billed per clip. The fight test compares three models on one identical prompt.

How to Make AI Anime: 4 Ways at a Glance

Way Cost No watermark 1080p+ Commercial use Series-ready
1. Free apps $0 No No No No
2. Paid subscription apps About $10/mo+ Yes Yes Yes No
3. unified AI media generation API From $0.06/s Yes Up to 4K Yes Yes
4. Coding agent + the API As Way 3 Yes Up to 4K Yes In batches

Way 1: Free AI Anime Video Generator Apps

Kling’s free Basic plan and ByteDance’s Dreamina both hand out a small daily credit allowance, and both are genuinely fun for a first anime.

Kling’s own plan table is blunt about the catch: on Basic there is no watermark removal, no 1080p or 4K, and no commercial-use rights. Those arrive on the paid tiers. Dreamina likewise keeps watermark-free, campaign-ready downloads for paying members.

Free-tier catches

  • Watermark on every download. Fine for a group chat, a deal-breaker for a client or an ad account.
  • Capped resolution. Kling Basic has no 1080p or 4K, so your anime tops out below what feeds and TVs expect.
  • One clip at a time, in the slow lane. Free plans get one video per generation and no fast-track or unlimited queue. At peak hours a job can sit, stall halfway, and send you back to square one with fewer credits left.
  • A daily ration. A few clips a day will not fill a series, and a failed run eats into the same allowance.
  • No commercial rights. Anything made on the free tiers above cannot be sold, sponsored, or run as an ad.

Great for a fan edit on your own account. Not a channel you can monetize: the watermark stays, resolution is capped, and the license rules out commercial use.

Way 2: Paid AI Anime Video Apps

A subscription removes the watermark and grants commercial rights. Kling’s Standard plan starts at $6.99 for the first month and renews at $8.80 with 660 credits.

The ceiling is manual work. An episode is dozens of shots, each generated and downloaded by hand, and keeping one character consistent across them is up to you.

Way 3: Use an AI Anime Video Generator API

With a unified AI media generation API, you pay per generated second, keep full commercial rights, and call models from a playground or from code. For an anime channel or app, a 3-minute episode of thirty-six shots costs about $27.00 at 720p, or $10.80 as a 480p draft on Seedance 2.0 Fast (our calculations).

Choose your anime style

Sub-style Prompt keywords Scenes it suits
Shonen action “2D cel animation, fast choreographed”, “dynamic orbiting camera” Fights, training arcs, rivalries
Slice of life “soft golden-hour light”, “natural ambience”, quoted dialogue School, trains, quiet drama
Fantasy world-building “hand-painted background style”, “slow push-in, volumetric light” Establishing shots, transitions
Emotional drama “close-up”, “tears welling”, “wind in hair” Turning points, cliffhangers

Copy any prompt below and try it yourself in the Seedance 2.0 T2V playground. Generated on Modellix: 5 seconds, 720p.

Anime close-up emotion

“Premium anime film style, 2D cel shading: close-up of a young swordswoman on a windy cliff at dusk, her hair and scarf moving in the wind, tears welling as she looks toward a distant burning castle, cinematic lighting, detailed painted background.”

Anime dialogue with sound

“Anime slice-of-life scene, 2D cel animation: two high-school friends sit on a train at golden hour. The girl turns to him and says, "Promise you will come back this summer." Soft light flickers through the windows, natural train ambience.”

Try it

Anime action choreography

“Anime action scene, 2D cel animation: two martial artists spar on a rain-soaked rooftop at night, fast choreographed kicks and blocks, dynamic orbiting camera, splashing water, neon glow, no blood.”

Anime world-building shot

“Anime fantasy establishing shot in hand-painted background style: a floating island city above a sea of clouds at sunrise, airships drifting past, slow push-in, soft volumetric light.”

Open Seedance 2.0 T2V in the Playground

Always write “2D cel animation” or “cel shading”. Without it, many models slide toward glossy 3D.

Keep your character consistent across shots

  1. Write one character line and paste it into every prompt. Hair, eyes, outfit, and one prop, in the same words every time.
  2. Give the model a character sheet. Seedance 2.0 I2V accepts up to 9 reference images and Vidu Q3 Mix R2V up to 7.
  3. Refer to references by name. Use [Image 1], [Image 2] in the Seedance prompt so each instruction points at the right input.
Character line (reuse in every shot): Aki, a young swordswoman with long black hair, amber eyes, a cream scarf, and a dark blue travel coat.

Which Seedance model animates anime fights best? We tested 3

Fights are where AI anime usually falls apart. We sent one choreography prompt to three Seedance models at 720p, 5 seconds, 16:9.

Anime action scene, 2D cel animation: two martial artists spar on a rain-soaked rooftop at night, fast choreographed kicks and blocks, dynamic orbiting camera, splashing water, neon glow, no blood.

Seedance 2.0: the full fight, with cuts

Seedance 2.0 Fast: clean lines, more posing than punching

Seedance 2.5: clear exchanges, a more Western-animation look

Seedance 2.0 Seedance 2.0 Fast Seedance 2.5
Action Most intense: camera cuts, a kick that throws water, a clinch Mostly stances and circling, little contact Clear kick and block exchanges
Look Classic 2D cel anime Clean 2D lines Closer to Western animation, semi-3D shading
Processing time 155 s 92 s 229 s
Billed (5 s, 720p) $0.75 $0.60 $1.155

Verdict: Seedance 2.0 delivered the most convincing fight and the most “anime” look for $0.75. Fast is the cheapest way to block out a scene at $0.60, and 2.5 earns its $1.155 when a take must run past 15 seconds.

Choreograph in beats, one exchange per clip: “kick, block, counter” beats “they fight”.

Turn real footage into anime

Have a live-action take? Seedance 2.0 V2V and Kling V3 Omni Video restyle a source clip while keeping its motion, with a prompt such as “restyle as 2D cel anime, keep the camera move”.

Tips for generating efficiently through the API

  • Draft cheap, finish sharp. Find the shot on Seedance 2.0 Fast at 480p ($0.06/s), then re-render only the keepers at 720p or 1080p.
  • Close the tab, keep the job. Tasks run on the server. Submit, walk away, and poll the task ID later; nothing restarts because your browser did.
  • Pay for results, not errors. In our runs, failed tasks were not billed, so a rejected prompt costs a rewrite, not money.
  • Batch the shot list. Put one request per line in a JSONL file and run modellix-cli model batch to submit a whole episode at once.
  • Save outputs on completion. Result URLs expire about seven days after a task finishes, so download or copy them to your own storage right away.

Way 4: Batch an AI Anime Episode With Your Coding Agent

Once a style works, stop clicking. Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor. One sentence and one API key are all your agent needs, and the same prompt scales from one clip to a full season.

My Modellix API key is mdlx-••••••••••••••••••••••••. Read https://docs.modellix.ai/get-started/index.md and https://docs.modellix.ai/bytedance/seedance-2-0-t2v.md, then use Seedance 2.0 T2V to generate one 5-second 16:9 anime clip for each shot in episode-01.txt, pasting the same character line into every prompt. Poll each task until it finishes and save the MP4 files to ./episode-01.

Swap the masked key for your own from the Modellix console, and treat it like a password.

Prefer a skill or the terminal? Install the Modellix skill once and your agent finds the right model and fields by itself:

1
npx skills add https://github.com/Modellix/modellix-plugin --skill modellix

Or run one clip from the CLI:

1
2
3
4
5
6
npm install --global modellix-cli
export MODELLIX_API_KEY="your_api_key"

modellix-cli model run --model-slug bytedance/seedance-2.0-t2v \
--body '{"prompt":"Anime slice-of-life scene, 2D cel animation: two friends sit on a train at golden hour","ratio":"16:9","resolution":"720p","duration":5}' \
--wait --timeout 15m --quiet

Details live in the API, Skill, and CLI guides.
