A note on version mismatch, because it is the biggest source of confusion in this comparison: “Nano Banana vs Flux” without a version is not a well-defined question. Google’s family spans the original Nano Banana, Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana 2 Lite, and Nano Banana Pro; Black Forest Labs’ family spans FLUX1.1 [pro]/[ultra], FLUX.1 Kontext, and the FLUX.2 line ([pro]/[flex]/[max]/[dev]). Most comparisons online quietly pit only Nano Banana Pro against FLUX.2 — which is why the results keep flip-flopping between “wiped the floor” and “almost the same”.

Nano Banana family (Google):
- Nano Banana (original) — Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, released August 26, 2025. Fast and light; the model most older articles test.
- Nano Banana 2 — Gemini 3.1 Flash Image. Adds thinking modes, web search grounding, character consistency for up to 5 people, extreme aspect ratios.
- Nano Banana 2 Lite — Gemini 3.1 Flash Lite Image. The budget tier, priced below the original.
- Nano Banana Pro — Gemini 3 Pro Image, released late November 2025. Highest fidelity and text accuracy; blends up to 14 reference images; the current benchmark for legible in-image text.
Flux family (Black Forest Labs):
- FLUX1.1 [pro] — the standard text-to-image endpoint since late 2024; still one of the most-used image APIs in production.
- FLUX1.1 [pro] Ultra — ultra-high-resolution variant of 1.1.
- FLUX.1 Kontext — released May 29, 2025; the first widely adopted edit-by-instruction model, famous for inpainting that leaves the rest of the image untouched.

Text rendering and world knowledge
This is where the consensus is clearest, and it matches the pattern across every independent test we reviewed: Nano Banana Pro is the current benchmark for text inside images. Logos, product labels, infographics, posters — Pro renders character-level correct typography more reliably than any Flux version, including across non-Latin scripts (independent tests show it winning multilingual poster tests against FLUX.2 Max on Japanese typography). FLUX.2 closed much of the gap — Black Forest Labs advertises “production-ready text” for complex typography and UI mockups, and in Vidguru’s 10-test benchmark FLUX.2 Max actually won the infographic test outright. But when the text itself is the deliverable — a poster, a label, a diagram — Nano Banana Pro is the safer pick.
World knowledge is the bigger gap. Nano Banana Pro and 2 can ground generation in Google Search, so prompts about real facts (“an infographic about the Tokyo Tower with accurate annotations”) come back correct; FLUX.2 has no live search — its world knowledge comes from training data plus a visual language model, and independent tests show it generating plausible-looking but wrong schematics where Pro returns accurate ones. If your workload involves real-world facts, precise counts, or complex scene logic (“a dog swimming will displace the water and make the waterline uneven”), that reasoning is exactly what Nano Banana’s thinking pipeline handles and what diffusion-only models still miss.
Character consistency is close to a tie. Nano Banana 2/Pro hold a consistent character identity across generations without fine-tuning (up to 5 people). FLUX.2 supports up to 10 reference images for consistent character and style — Black Forest Labs claims it is the “best character consistency available today”, and independent multi-scene tests rate both “very consistent”. For brand mascots and campaign series, either works; Nano Banana wins on prompt-only consistency, FLUX.2 wins when you have a strong reference library to feed it.
Speed, cost, and open weights
This is Flux’s territory, and the advantages are real.
Speed. FLUX.2 generates images in roughly a tenth of Nano Banana Pro’s wall-clock time in independent tests — Overchat’s comparison measured FLUX.2 at about one-tenth the time, and BFL advertises sub-10-second generation for FLUX.2 Pro at 2K. Nano Banana Pro’s reasoning pipeline is the reason it is slower, and the reason it is smarter about complex prompts. If your workflow is iterative — dozens of drafts before a keeper — that speed difference changes the economics of exploration.
Cost. At official API prices (verified August 24, 2026, full table in the next section), Flux is cheaper at every tier: FLUX1.1 [pro] at $0.04/image versus Nano Banana Pro at $0.134 per 1K–2K image is roughly a 3× gap, and FLUX.2 [klein] starts at $0.014 per megapixel. For high-volume pipelines this dominates the decision.
Open weights. FLUX.2 [dev] and the FLUX.1 [dev] weights are downloadable; you can run them locally with ComfyUI, fine-tune them, and keep data on your own hardware (the [dev] license is non-commercial — check the BFL licensing terms before building a product on it). Nano Banana has no open weights at all. This is the entire reason the “Nano Banana Pro local” search exists — if you need on-premises generation or fine-tuning, only Flux can do it.
One more honest note on the aesthetics dimension: independent tests describe FLUX.2 as aesthetic-first (painterly, cinematic, strong atmosphere) and Nano Banana Pro as logic-first. On plain photorealism both are excellent and tests largely tie — the aesthetic gap matters most for editorial and marketing imagery where Flux’s look is a feature, not a bug.

What this means at scale: a team generating 10,000 images per month at 1K would pay roughly $1,340 on Nano Banana Pro’s official low end, $1,265 on our low end, $400 on FLUX1.1 [pro], and $300 on FLUX.2 [pro] (at 1MP). Two honesty notes on prices. First, official per-image prices depend on resolution tier and aggregators add their own margin, so the same model can legitimately cost different amounts on different routes — always check current pricing before budgeting. Second, we deliberately did not put a Modellix price on Flux in the table above: as of August 24, 2026, Flux is not on our roster, and pretending otherwise would make this article worse.
How to access each family: direct API or aggregator
Nano Banana, direct from Google. The family runs on the Gemini API, available through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, plus the consumer Gemini app. Direct access means one Google contract, Google’s docs, and Google’s billing — with per-image prices from the table above.
Nano Banana, through Modellix. You trade a little margin for not maintaining separate vendor integrations. Flux runs on the BFL API (dashboard at dashboard.bfl.ai, pricing in the table above) and the BFL Playground, the [dev] weights are on Hugging Face, and FLUX.2 [dev] can run locally in ComfyUI. We want to be straight with you here: Modellix does not carry Flux as of August 24, 2026 — we verified this against our live model list while writing. So if your project is Flux-based, the direct BFL route (or another platform that hosts Flux) is the honest answer, and we are not going to pretend a one-key shortcut exists where it doesn’t. When to pick Nano Banana — and when to pick Flux
Pick Nano Banana when:
- In-image text accuracy is non-negotiable (logos, labels, infographics, posters, multilingual typography)
- Prompts involve real-world facts, counts, or scene logic that need reasoning, not just diffusion
- You need character consistency across a series without a reference library
- You are already on Google Cloud / Vertex AI and want the same contract
Pick Flux when:
- Speed per iteration matters — FLUX.2 generates in roughly a tenth of Pro’s time
- Cost per image at volume is the primary constraint — Flux undercuts Nano Banana at every tier

- We don’t carry Flux — today. Our roster is verified live at modellix.ai/models; it includes the Nano Banana family but not Black Forest Labs’ models as of August 24, 2026. If a Flux-based project is what you’re building, we are not the route, and we said so above.
- An aggregator does not change the model. If Nano Banana Pro’s $0.24/4K official price is too high for your budget, our margin does not make the model cheaper than its official bands — we add a layer, we don’t subsidize it.
- We are not always the cheapest route. Direct Google pricing and our price table both exist; compare them for your resolution mix before committing. We win on one-key convenience, not on being the lowest price for every model.
- We don’t set vendor limits. Rate limits, resolution tiers, and availability ultimately come from Google. If a vendor restricts a model, the restriction applies to us too.
Bottom line
Nano Banana and Flux are both production-grade image model families, and the choice is a job-fit decision, not a quality verdict. Nano Banana Pro wins text fidelity, world knowledge, and reasoning; Flux wins speed, cost, and open weights. The version map matters more than the family name, and the access route matters almost as much as the model — especially because one of these families (Flux) currently requires the direct route. Is there anything better than Nano Banana?
For legible text inside images and prompt-only character consistency, no — Nano Banana Pro is the benchmark. For cost, speed, or local deployment, yes: the Flux family beats it on those specific dimensions, as does Seedream at the low-cost end. “Better” only makes sense per dimension.
Is Nano Banana the best image generator?
Not as a blanket statement. It is the best at text rendering and world-knowledge-grounded generation; it is not the cheapest, not the fastest, and not open-source. Pick by job, not by crown.
